SEBUYAU, July 9: The Sarawak government has allocated approximately RM11 billion for the development of the Second Trunk Road (STR), the Coastal Road, and a series of major bridges as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the region’s road transportation network and drive economic growth across Sarawak.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the projects are being fully funded by the Sarawak government, underscoring the State’s strong commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure that benefits communities throughout the state.
He described the simultaneous implementation of these major road and bridge projects as a landmark achievement in Sarawak’s development history.
“We are extremely proud that the Sarawak government is able to commit such substantial resources towards building an extensive network of roads, major bridges, and other critical infrastructure. Never before in Sarawak’s history have projects of this scale been undertaken concurrently,” he said as reported by TVS.
Aidel made the remarks after a site visit to the Package A2 project, which involves the construction of a new 28-kilometre road to Sebuyau built to JKR R5 standards.
He noted that the STR and Sarawak Coastal Road networks will significantly enhance connectivity between urban and rural areas while serving as key enablers of development along strategic growth corridors across the region.
According to Aidel, the infrastructure programme will also complement initiatives undertaken by regional development agencies, including the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), the Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA), and the Integrated Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), creating greater economic opportunities for local communities.
“This substantial investment in infrastructure is expected to strengthen Sarawak’s transportation network, improve mobility, and stimulate socioeconomic growth in the regions it serves,” he said. — DayakDaily
