KUCHING (July 15): Sarawak aims to achieve 100 per cent government’s online services delivery and improved ease of doing business by 2030.

In stating this target, Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Datuk Liwan Lagang says as the current coverage of online services stands at 35 per cent.

In this regard, he also points out that it is crucial for the cybersecurity ecosystem to be enhanced for the Sarawak to fully digitalise its government services.

“Ensuring a robust cybersecurity measure is essential in protecting sensitive data, maintaining public trust, and safeguarding the integrity of our digital infrastructure,” he said in his speech for a cybersecurity workshop conducted by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) at a hotel here today.

Adding on, Liwan said the state government had launched the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, anchored on five strategic pillars to achieve a leading digital society.

“The five pillars are economic growth priorities, digital business development, public sector and services, frontier technologies adoption, and a foundation for digital economy.

“It must be stressed that cybersecurity serves as a vital conduit to support the advancement of a digital economy.”

The deputy minister also to a achieve a fully digitalised society, there must be policies in place for technology adoption, data management, cloud strategy, diversification of service providers, information, communication and technology (ICT) workforce development, and cybersecurity.

According to him, over 20,000 cybercrimes were reported in the country in 2021, which had resulted in lossesamounting to RM560 million, with the majority of the attacks being targeted at computers, servers and network equipment of organisations.

“In conclusion, as we navigate the complexities of our digital landscape, we (Sarawak government) remain committed to prioritising cyber security.

“We recognise that cybersecurity is not a one-time effort, but a continuous journey of vigilance and adaptation,” added Liwan.
