Sarawak football team impresses former goalie despite early exit

MUKAH: Former Sarawak goalkeeper Aidil Mohamad was impressed with the team’s performance but expressed disappointment that the team did not qualify for the quarter-finals at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024.

Aidil who hails from Mukah acknowledged that the team gave their best throughout the tournament.

“As the host, it’s really unfortunate that we did not make it into the quarter-finals.

“This was an opportunity we needed to seize, and we might not get another chance like this in the next 10 years,” Aidil told reporters after the match at Dalat and Mukah Districts Council (MDDM) field on Friday (Aug 16)

Nevertheless, the veteran goalkeeper advised the Sarawak players to be more professional in future matches and also praised the coaching team for nurturing the team’s potential as well as guiding the young players to this level.

Aidil however hoped for more football events in Mukah, noting the exceptional support from the local fans.

Sarawak’s chance of advancing ended when Perak and Federal Territory drew 0-0 in their Group D match.

Perak and Federal Territory moved on to the quarter-finals with 7 and 5 points, respectively, while Sarawak were eliminated with 4 points.
