KUCHING (July 17): A delegation representing the Sarawak Furniture Industry Association (SFIA) has recently paid a courtesy call on Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) general manager Zainal Abidin Abdullah in a move to drive forward the state’s furniture industry.
During the visit, SFIA president Leo Chiang Kok Sze said it is important that SFIA keeps STIDC informed about the state’s furniture industry, while detailing SFIA’s ongoing programmes and future plans aimed at advancing the industry.
“SFIA boasts a strong membership of over 350 companies, including those involved in various downstream industry sectors,” Leo said in a joint statement by SFIA and STIDC today.
In the same statement, Zainal shared insights into the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), highlighting the furniture industry as a key economic driver for Sarawak.
According to him, the strategy aims to propel Sarawak towards the developed status, with a target of RM4 billion in export revenue by 2030.
“To achieve this, the plan includes a range of initiatives, such as small medium enterprise (SME) and young entrepreneur development programmes, designed to nurture competitive and globally recognised furniture entrepreneurs,” said Zainal.
Proposing a collaborative approach, he also suggested SFIA and STIDC engage in brainstorming sessions to craft a comprehensive blueprint and establish a robust supply chain for Sarawak’s furniture industry.
Zainal additionally advised SFIA to compile a detailed database of the products and services offered by its members.
“This strategic move is aimed at strengthening Sarawak’s furniture industry and preparing it to face future challenges effectively,” he said.
