MUKAH (Sept 17): The Sarawak government will set up Islamic technical college to provide opportunities for Muslim students to fulfil their obligations to study the Quran and worldly knowledge.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Muslims should have the opportunity to gain knowledge from both areas.
“This is for us to uphold the dignity of Islam for it to be respected and for Muslims to become the example to other religions,” he said during the Maulidur Rasul gathering and parade at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja here today.
Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi were the guests of honour.
Abang Johari also thanked all Sarawakians, especially those who are Muslim, for their unity.
“We should be an example and continue to maintain our lives and upgrade our livelihoods through good education,” he said.
Earlier, he urged Muslims to carry out their duties based on the character of Al-Amin shown by Prophet Muhammad.
He said Prophet Muhammad is known for being trustworthy, responsible, and contributed much to the development of humanity.
“In connection with this, we in Sarawak implement what is called the ‘muraqabah’ (mindfulness) concept, which takes into account our daily lives and our responsibility towards the environment.
“Under this concept, we must take into account all aspects of life. That is why the Sarawak government is focusing on protecting the environment while at the same time developing our state to a better level.
“Today the world is facing climate change and food security problems. The policy of our government is in accordance with the wishes of Muslims and Islamic leaders to provide goodness to all aspects of life,” he said.
Among those present were Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh; and Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
