KUCHING, Dec 2: The Sarawak government has earmarked RM6.1 million to implement programmes aimed at developing youth talent, including in sports and culture, according to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The allocation was announced in the recently concluded Sarawak Budget 2023 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

“For the development of youth entrepreneurs, RM2 million has also been allocated to implement various programmes to encourage participation of youth in entrepreneurship in Sarawak and increase the income of our Sarawakian youth.

“With the total of RM8.1 Million allocations, various holistic programmes will be implemented including the International Youth Mental Health Conference, International eSports Games, National Extreme Sports Challenge, International Sarawak Youth Volunteer Day, Youth Environment Program, Youth Entrepreneur Setup (YES) and many others,” said Abang Johari whose text speech was read by Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during Sarawak Youth Day 2023 held at Kapit Civic Centre streamed live via Sarawak Public Communications Unit’s (Ukas) Facebook page today.

Abang Johari could not attend the event following advice from doctors due to being sick and having a sore throat.

On the same note, Abang Johari said the Sarawak government has created the Youth Technopreneur portfolio under Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development to empower Sarawak entrepreneurs through the development of Digital Economy.

He also said that the Ministry involved will prepare and design high-impact programmes in Sarawak by applying innovation and digital technology for that purpose.

“Youth Technopreneur development is aimed at equipping youth with the technology component that is a new business today.

“I believe that youth entrepreneurs operating through technological expertise will make it easier for youth to formulate holistic strategies and be able to make business-related decisions,” he added. — DayakDaily
