KUCHING (Aug 9): Sarawak and the Northern Territory of Australia have signed a historic memorandum of agreement (MoA) on wildlife management.
Signed at the Crocodylus Park in Darwin yesterday, the MoA is considered a milestone for Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Wildlife Management International (WMI) as it paves the way for enhanced collaboration in wildlife management and conservation efforts between Sarawak and Northern Territory.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development, witnessed the signing.
“The MoA focuses on sharing expertise in crocodile management, a critical area for both regions, given their unique ecosystems,” said Awang Tengah in a press statement today.
The delegation was also briefed by experts from the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security and the Northern Territory Park and Wildlife Commission, including Prof Sam Banks and Prof Dr Grahame Webb, on advanced conservation techniques and research initiatives.
“This agreement represents a commitment to sustainable wildlife management, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing conservation challenges,” said Awang Tengah.
The Sarawak delegation’s benchmarking visit continues to strengthen international partnerships, focusing on sustainable practices that benefit both regions, he added.
