SIBU: Sarawak's Road Transport Department (JPJ) is conducting inspections on express buses in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas celebrations.
Its director, Norizan Jili, said that the purpose of the inspection is to ensure that the journey of people who use the express bus service to return to their hometowns on vacation runs smoothly and reach their destinations safely.
He said that for this year's Christmas season, the express bus inspections were done at the operator companies’ depot since Dec 19. Similar inspections were also done at bus terminals throughout the state.
"We ask the bus operators to ensure their buses are always in good condition before starting the journey. JPJ Sarawak will ensure that inspections are carried out on the buses before it is deployed," he said on Saturday (Dec 23)
Norizan said that inspections involving physical and technical aspects were carried out by JPJ motor vehicle inspectors. Busses that pass the inspection are then given a notice valid for seven days. It would be affixed to the mirror in front of the bus.
He said buses without the notice would be inspected immediately.
Norizan said the JPJ, together with the police and the National Anti-Drug Agency, would ensure that express bus drivers are drug-free.
He said, JPJ Sarawak also conducts operations throughout the state.
He also reminded road users to drive safely and not speed.
