KUCHING (Aug 22): Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities in rail transport education and research.
Sarawak Metro, in a statement released yesterday, said the collaboration was officially sealed during an MoU signing at UTHM campus in Batu Pahat, Johor yesterday.
This, it added, marked another milestone for Sarawak Metro’s socio-economic enhancement development (SEED) programme which focused on developing a centre of excellence in advancing the green public transport industry in Sarawak.
“Through collaborative efforts with the country’s institutions of higher learning, the company is committed towards nurturing skilled manpower resources as well as driving innovation and excellence in the transportation sector,” said Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa.
“By integrating academic knowledge with practical industry experiences, we aim to equip future professionals in Sarawak with the necessary skills, and this is a significant step towards advancing education and research in rail transportation.
The collaboration, he said, also aimed to create a mutually beneficial partnership in the exchange of technical know-how and the development of joint research in transportation and engineering technology.
“It will also focus on strategic human resource development initiatives to foster employment opportunities and enhance local expertise and capacity in the transportation sector, particularly in Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) hydrogen vehicles,” he added.
