KUCHING (July 31): Seventy amateur muaythai boxers from Kuching and West Kalimantan, Indonesia made a special appearance at the SFCxMFC Muaythai Challenge held at SMASH, The Tops Boulevard Shopping Mall recently.

The competition, which was organised by Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) in collaboration with the Malaysian Muaythai Association (PMM) and Mad Fight Club (MFC), staged 35 bouts in various weight categories.

PMNS president Jumaat Ibrahim said the event was a platform to promote muaythai and produce more new talents. It also served as a warm-up to organising the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) with the muaythai competition to be held in Bintulu.

MFC president Tsan Nieng Khai, who was tournament venue sponsor and strategic partner, hoped that such tournaments will continue from time to time to further develop and promote combat sports.

The tournament was dominated by fighters from Kenyalang Muaythai who won 10 matches. Stealing the limelight was Muhd Aqil Zulfiqar who defeated Ahmad Qayyum Haiqal of Petra Jaya Kilas Muaythai Club in the 45-48kg category and Muhd Habibullah Iswandy who beat Emmanuel Thomas of Bau Muaythai Club.

The other winners from Kenyalang Muaythai were Mohd Adzriff Israf, Muhd Alifitri Amir Hanafi, Mas Azimie Muqriz Sumady, Abu Firas Dhaifullah, Aniq Ashyraf Marcellinus Roy, Alya Ainul Mardhiah Iswandy and Sebastian Ling Chung Kiat.

Winners from other clubs included Usamah Edlie@Adli (SS Fighters), Abdul Raffi Abdul Kareem (Phoenix Meranek), Jarrod Ooi Brierley (SS Fighters), Muhd Azim Nazmi (Rentap), Muhd Hadizan Afendi (WAR’S 15), Muhd Fakhri Aqbar Abdullah (Kilas Petra Jaya), Lima Jauku Youngley (Bau), Awang Ahmad Mukhriz (Sting), Ade Mutia (West Borneo), Fatiha Hanum Abdul Hasrul (Phoenix Meranek), Andieva Scholastics Tan (Bau), Bruce Chan (SS Fighters) and Mohd Azamuddin Asyraaf David (Legacy).
