KUCHING, Sept. 13: Youth in Sarawak must play a bigger role in the development of the state by taking responsibility, creating new ideas and being problem solvers.
Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said platforms like AZAM Young Souls Toastmasters Club provide space for young people to strengthen communication skills, increase self-confidence and shape leadership qualities.
According to him, the appointment night of leadership is not just an exchange of positions, but rather brings a great deal of trust that is closely related to organizational responsibility and sustainability.
"You are not only the future of Sarawak, but you are already part of Sarawak today. Your ideas are important now, your creativity is important now and your voice is important now", he said.
He said this through the text of a speech delivered by South Kuching Mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng at AZAM Young Souls Toastmasters Club 2026/2027 Leadership Appointment Night Meeting here today.
Obviously, young people are a huge source of energy, ideas and potential for Sarawak, so they don't have to wait until the future to start contributing to this state.
He believes that young people should have the courage to create opportunities by developing business ideas, using technology to solve problems and expressing their views constructively for the advancement of communities.
Meanwhile, Dr Sim also reminded young people to maintain their physical and mental health as healthy and resilient generations are essential in building productive societies.
Furthermore, true leadership begins when a person is willing to accept responsibility, learn from mistakes, and constantly strive to improve.
"Sarawak needs you as a thinker, creator, innovator, problem solver, entrepreneur, professional and of course, leader", he said.
At the same ceremony, the new leadership line of AZAM Young Souls Toastmasters Club for the 2026/2027 session was also introduced with Arwen Zahra Raees appointed as President, while Ryshaune Lee Yyun Sxuen was the previous President.
The new line of committees also saw Claryssse Ngei Xing En as Vice President for Education, Mohamad Isma Mazidi as Vice President for Membership, Siti Nur Syafiqah Abu Bakar as Vice President for Public Relations, Nabihah Salleh as Secretary and Alexander Velix as Treasurer.
Following the appointment are Mohamad Hassan Kamarolzain as the Tatatertib Officer, Tiong Jing Xiang as Assistant Vice President of Education, Dayang Nur Raihan Syafiqah as Assistant Vice President of Public Relations, Nur Syafiqah Abdul Razak as Deputy Secretary and Abel Maran Bennet as Logistics Assistant.
