KUCHING (Nov 1): The Sarawak government plans to integrate Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) into hafiz secondary schools throughout the state, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Apart from that, he said that the state government is also considering incorporating the Cambridge syllabus into the International Islamic School, which will also be based on Islamic teachings.

“We have hafiz schools producing young individuals who memorise the Quran, but what is even more important is to translate and implement the teachings of the Quran.

“Throughout history, we know that many scholars in Islamic history, including those in the field of economics based on Ibn Khaldun, have laid the foundation for human development.

“Therefore, our aim today is to ensure that our hafiz students continue their education from primary school to secondary school.

“We will develop our hafiz schools at the secondary level leading to TVET, and the government has agreed to establish an International Islamic School, where the curriculum will be based on Islamic teachings along with the Cambridge syllabus,” he said during the launch of Masjid Darul Iman Sadong Jaya upgrading project near here today.

Speaking about the mosque, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, who is also Sadong Jaya assemblyman, said that it symbolises the strength of the Islamic spirit in Sadong Jaya.

He expressed gratitude on behalf of the Sadong Jaya community to Abang Johari for approving financial allocations to construct the mosque, with a total cost of RM12.96 million.

“Alhamdulillah, the construction of this mosque, which has taken nearly three years, has been completed perfectly by the responsible contractor.

“This is undoubtedly a source of pride for us in the Sadong Jaya area, to see this beautifully designed mosque standing tall,” he said.

Aidel added that the Darul Iman Sadong Jaya Tahfiz Center has also been built and is operational near the mosque.

He emphasised that both the mosque and the tahfiz center will further promote the teachings of Islam in Sadong Jaya.
