Sarawak police to destroy illegal drugs, poisons worth over RM2.6 mln

KUCHING (Sept 19): The Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) will destroy illegal drugs and poisons worth RM2,643,089.76.

The drugs and poisons were seized from possession cases between 2017 and 2024.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said 7,478 cases were investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Poisons Act 1952.

The investigations and court proceedings across 20 districts in Sarawak have been completed.

The items to be destroyed are ecstasy powder, methamphetamine (syabu), cannabis, ketum leaves, Erimin 5 pills, Nospan pills, ketamine, ecstasy pills, ketum liquid, and urine bottles.

Mancha said the illicit items will be destroyed by authorised contractor Trienekens Sarawak Sdn Bhd at its thermal treatment plant (incinerator).

“This disposal is conducted in accordance with Sections 406A and 407 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said.

Also present were Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Ibrahim Darus and NCID Sarawak head ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah.

The NCID called on the public to continue providing information related to drug trafficking activities via its hotline on 012-2087222.
