KUCHING (Oct 27) Sarawak recorded one rabies case involving a pet dog over the past week, said Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
He mentioned that the case occurred in a low-cost housing area along Mile 12, Kuching-Serian Road.
“The pet dog tested positive for rabies after biting its owner,” he said during his Facebook live session ‘Shall WEE Talk’ yesterday.
Wee reminded the community to remain vigilant even though the number of rabies cases is on a decreasing trend.
He empahsised that pet owners must not take this matter lightly and should continue sending their dogs for vaccination against rabies.
“Rabies vaccination campaigns are organised on a regular basis in selected areas, and I hope pet owners will give their full support to such efforts.
“Only when their dogs are vaccinated can we ensure sure the containment of rabies,” he added.
Wee also mentioned that rabies vaccination programmes will be carried out in sub-urban areas, where dog licencing services will also be offered.
