KUCHING, May 18: Sarawak’s revenue is projected to reach RM16 billion this year, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
During the first quarter of this year, Sarawak’s revenue totaled RM4.79 billion, he revealed in the recently concluded Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting.
“If the first quarter has already reached more than RM4 billion, times by four, on the assumption that other things remain equal, it will be RM16 billion,” Abang Johari said.
He made these remarks during his keynote address at the Sarawak Budget Discussion, organised by the Persatuan Mahasiswa Sarawak Universiti Malaya Faculty of Business and Economics, held at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur.
The event was streamed live via the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) Facebook page today.
Abang Johari also mentioned that revenue will further expand through carbon trading and gas aggregator revenues.
On May 15, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also the Second Minister of Finance and New Economy, disclosed that as of March 31, Sarawak had collected RM4.798 billion, or 38 percent of the RM12.749 billion projected revenue for 2024. — DayakDaily
