KUCHING (Aug 14): The wait is finally over for Sarawak Wushu athlete Carmen Chaw Jia Min, who secured her first medal – a silver – at the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI today.

She earned the silver medal in the Women’s Taijijian event with an impressive score of 9.530 points, according to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), putting her second behind Selangor’s Mandy Cebelle Chen.

Reflecting on her journey, Chaw shared that her debut in the event was at Sukma 2022, where she did not manage to secure a medal.

“This is my first medal since my debut participation at Sukma 2022,” Chaw told reporters when met today.

She expressed her delight at her achievement, noting the intense competition she faced.

“I did not expect to win a medal, but I wanted to give my best, utilising all the training I’ve had over the past few years,” the Kuching-born athlete said.

She added that this accomplishment will further motivate her to strive for excellence in future competitions.
