KUCHING, 16th September: The Governor of Sarawak State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar urged the people of this state to continue promoting a culture of excellence in all fields to develop an advanced and prosperous Sarawak.

He said the future of Mother Pertiwi depends on Sarawak's children's ability to produce development and create innovation in various fields, not just on hereditary commodities.

"Whether in education, research, sports, arts or public services, we must always strive to achieve the best international standards", he said in a statement on Malaysia Day 2026.

Tun Wan Junaidi said he wants to see more young Sarawak people emerge as highly educated individuals and able to create new job opportunities.

He said the group included scientists, engineers, tech company founders, researchers, social entrepreneurs and community leaders.

However, he emphasized that the wealth of a state is not only measured by economic resources but also the ability of people to build knowledge, innovation and ethics.

"A successful country is one that produces open-minded, integrity-minded citizens who are always willing to promote science", he said.

He also called on the people of Sarawak to be a fact-checking society and wise in evaluating and filtering information.
