KUCHING (July 12): A 17-strong scouts contingent from Sarawak have embarked on a journey to the 12th National Jamboree hosted by Scouts of China (Taiwan) held at Tsou Ma Lai Far in Tainan, Taiwan from July 10 to 16.

In a recent statement, the Sarawak Scouts Council (SSC) said the jamboree offers members a valuable opportunity to engage with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds to foster international friendship and understanding.

“The week-long event will provide a platform for young scouts to participate in various educational and interactive activities designed to enhance their skills and knowledge,” read the statement.

The contingent’s participation was made possible by the unwavering support and sponsorship from the Sarawak Scout Council, Sarawak Scout Foundation, and the Kuching City Scout Council.

At the Sarawak Scout Headquarters on July 6, Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner John Lim Boon Beng, on behalf of Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak Capt Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan, handed the Sarawak Scout flag to Sarawak Contingent Leader Chang Wee Khee.

This ceremony, attended by International Commissioner of Sarawak Iu Cho Heng, symbolised the official send-off as well as the collective hopes and expectations of Sarawak’s scouting community.

On July 9, the Sarawak contingent departed from Kuching International Airport, marking the beginning of their significant adventure.

“This jamboree is not merely a platform for cultural exchange but also a transformative experience that will contribute significantly to the personal and social development of our scouts,” said SSC.

With great anticipation and enthusiasm, the contingent is set to make their mark at the 12th National Jamboree.
