Sarawak to continue collaborations with Brunei and Indonesia for state development

MIRI: Sarawak will continue to collaborate with its neighbouring countries such as Brunei, and Indonesia for continuous development in the state.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed the importance of a long-term development strategy for the state, particularly through close collaboration with its neighbouring regions, Brunei to the north and Pontianak, Indonesia to the south.

“We work together with our neighbouring countries. In the north, this is Brunei, and in the south, we collaborate with Pontianak. From Pontianak, we sometimes connect with the Indonesian archipelago,” Abang Johari said, highlighting Sarawak’s geographical and strategic importance in fostering regional cooperation.

He said this during his speech at the state banquet here last night (Sept 28). Also present was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Premier reiterated the state’s commitment to long-term planning, noting that Sarawak’s growing revenue base enables the government to give back to the people by providing modern infrastructure and improving facilities throughout the state.

“Miri is fortunate to have UNESCO-recognized sites like Mulu and Niah Caves. That’s why we’re developing infrastructure to make it easier for tourists to enjoy Sarawak’s unique offerings,” he said.

He acknowledged that while Sarawak generates significant revenue, the government remains focused on reinvesting that income to build infrastructure for the benefit of the people.

“Hopefully, with the stability we have, we can continue to strengthen our state and contribute to Malaysia’s overall economic growth,” he added.
