Sarawak young robotics talents score five wins at Walnut Edutech Championship 2026

KUCHING, Sept 27: Young robotics talents from Sarawak achieved commendable success at the Walnut Edutech Championship (WEC) 2026, with five teams from four schools securing prizes across several STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)-related categories.

According to a press release, the national-level competition, held at SJKC Yuk Chai, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on Sept 26, saw SJK(C) Kai Ming, Bintulu and SJK (C) Chung Hua 2 emerge as two of the top-performing schools, securing both first and second prizes in the AlphaPi Buggy Smart Navigation Challenge.

Jayden Ting Yong Hao and Isabelle Lee Yii Xuan won first prize with strong coding and autonomous navigation skills, while Ryan Ting Yong Yek and Hugo Chieng Xue Yuan earned second prize through outstanding technical coordination.

Other notable achievements included SK Tebelu, which won third prize in the Drone Obstacle Challenge; SK Matang Jaya, which secured fifth place in the Drone Soccer Challenge; and SJK(C) Simunjan, which achieved fifth place with honours in the Scratch CPP category.

“These achievements reflect the growing potential of Sarawak’s young talents in STEM, particularly in areas such as coding, robotics, smart mobility, drone technology and hardware innovation,” said the press release.

It added that the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD), through its education and STEM grant initiatives, continues to play an important role in enabling talented Sarawakian students to participate in national-level competitions, gain valuable exposure and showcase their capabilities beyond the State.

“Such opportunities not only allow students to test their skills against peers from across Malaysia, but also help nurture confidence, creativity, problem-solving abilities and an innovative mindset from a young age.

“The success of these young Sarawakians at WEC 2026 is a promising reflection of the State’s growing STEM talent pipeline and will hopefully inspire more students across Sarawak to explore robotics, programming, engineering and technological innovation.” — DayakDaily
