KUCHING (Sept 9): The Sarawak Zone Polytechnic and Community College (PolyCC) has to date recorded 47,902 Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) graduates, said Politeknik Kuching Sarawak director Samsudin Mohd Saleh.

He said the institution is dedicated to producing high-quality, competent graduates for the national workforce.

According to him, PolyCC’s TVET graduates have significantly contributed to meet Malaysia’s labour needs.

“Thanks to the commitment of the institution’s stakeholders, our graduates have successfully entered the job market while some have pursued further education.

“This is supported by the Graduate Tracking Study conducted annually. Last year’s data shows that the employability rate for polytechnic students in the Sarawak Zone is 96.5 per cent, while community college graduates placed at 97.1 per cent,” he said.

Samsudin said this when speaking at the second session of the PolyCC Convocation 2024 held at Kuching Politeknik’s Perak Jubilee Hall here yesterday.

The event was officiated by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, who represented minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Samsudin highlighted that the Sarawak Zone PolyCC, under the Ministry of Higher Education, comprises three polytechnics and six community colleges, with 7,064 students currently enrolled into the institutions.

He added that PolyCC’s success is supported by strong collaborations with institutions, government agencies, and industry partners.

“A total of 199 local and 22 international industries have actively collaborated with the Sarawak Zone PolyCC, and 851 industries have participated in the Student Industrial Training Programme,” he said.

The convocation, running until Sept 11, also witnessed the eighth convocation of Politeknik METrO Betong Sarawak.

A total of 1,989 graduates from the Sarawak Zone PolyCC received their scrolls yesterday, of which Politeknik Kuching Sarawak produced 1,653 graduates, Politeknik METrO Betong Sarawak (60), and Sarawak Zone community colleges (276).
