KUCHING (July 17): Sarawakian dancer Janice Liaw, 18, won six medals at the Hanoi Stars Dance Festival in Vietnam early this month.
Representing Tyng Dance Academy, Liaw competed against elite dancers from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, China, Hong Kong (China), South Korea, Spain, Macau (China), and Malaysia at the dancesport championship held on July 5-7.
Liaw emerged champion in the Youth Open Solo Single Dance – Samba, cementing her status as one of Sarawak’s brightest stars.
“This exceptional achievement was accompanied by an impressive haul of six medals – one gold, one silver, and four bronze medals,” said academy founder and principal Chan Tyng Tyng.
“Janice’s accomplishment is a testament to the rigorous training and expert coaching at Tyng Dance Academy.”
Chan said this journey was particularly significant for Liaw as it marked the teenager’s first solo travel experience, where she navigated through three airports to reach Hanoi.
“Her dedication, resilience, and extraordinary performance have truly set her apart, bringing immense pride to Sarawak,” added Chan.
