KUCHING: The Saya Digital Tour (JSD) reflects the government’s commitment to bringing technology closer to the people.

Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said the JSD is part of the Saya Digital Campaign introduced by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to enhance the digital skills of Malaysians to better navigate the digital economy.

“In this era of globalisation, digital is one of the things we must face, whether we like it or not. So, we will raise awareness, and provide benefits from the available digital resources.

“This initiative is also designed to empower people to cope with the rising cost of living. We need to understand and be proficient in digital technology for the future,” he said when officiating at the Kuching leg of the ‘Saya Digital’ tour held at Plaza Merdeka here Saturday (Sept 7).

According to Ugak, the tour helps introduce the latest technologies while educating the public on how to integrate them into everyday life.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Liwan Lagang, MDEC Chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) CEO Sudarnoto Osman.

He highlighted the campaign’s three guiding principles, known as the 3Js: Generate Income, Save on Spending, and Beware of Scams.

As part of the effort to drive a digital society, the JSD programme has toured several regions, including Penang, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Kuala Terengganu, Ledang, Johor Bahru, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching.

“This initiative aims to raise public awareness of digital technology, enabling people to enjoy the benefits of a smart lifestyle and access equal opportunities,” he added.

He noted that the programme has been conducted at 78 locations, both physically and online, across the country. Since its launch in late 2020, it has benefited 37,891 Malaysians.

“Of this number, 647 participants, about three per cent from Sarawak, have registered for the programme.

“Sixty-four have completed training, achieving significant outcomes such as mastering digital skills and boosting their sales and income through successful digital marketing strategies,” he said.
