KUCHING (Aug 14): A public awareness talk offering valuable insights into the elusive world of the rainforest through the lens of camera traps will be held at Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) here this Aug 22.
The session will take place at the centre’s Integrated Biodiversity Research Building seminar room at 10am, but the participants can also join in via Zoom webinar.
The SBC, in a news release, said the talk would be conducted by Chien C Lee, a biologist turned photographer, who had spent over two decades mastering the art and science of camera-trapping across the Southeast Asia, mainly in Borneo.
His presentation would delve into the challenges and also the rewards of using camera traps to capture images of rare and elusive rainforest animals.
He would also be sharing with the participants some of his most treasured photographs, and the compelling stories behind them.
Lee began his career as an environmental educator in California before moving to Borneo in 1996, driven by a deep fascination with its rainforests.
Since 2003, he has been a professional photographer and wildlife tour conductor, spending at least nine months each year in the field.
Lee is currently an honorary research fellow at the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
His work has led to the first-ever photographs of numerous rare and endangered species, and in this respect, he uses his photography to promote a deeper understanding of and appreciation for nature, aiming to inspire conservation efforts.
Admission to the talk is free, but it is limited to only 80 participants.
Those wishing to attend are required to register via https://qrco.de/bfHyiK.
Attendees would have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with the presenter, gaining a rare glimpse into the hidden lives of rainforest creatures through the expertise and lens of the presenter.
To attend the talk via Zoom, individuals can register for free via https://qrco.de/bfHycI, which is limited to 500 participants.
