KUCHING, Oct 22: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak Sdn Bhd (Centexs), and ANGKASAX Innovation Sdn Bhd (Angkasa-X) recently exchanged Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to collaborate in areas such as human capital development and AI-driven technological solutions, with a focus on space-related industries.
According to a press release, the exchange ceremony took place during the two-day International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS 2024), held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from Oct 16 to 17.
Present to witness the exchange was Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
SDEC was represented by its chief executive officer, Dato Ir Sudarnoto Osman, while Centexs was represented by its chief executive officer Dato Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman, and Angkasa-X by its executive chairman Dato Dr Sean Seah, respectively.
“SDEC will explore the possibility of establishing satellite ground stations for satellite operations and setting up assembly-integration-testing (AIT) facilities for the development of Sarawak-owned satellites to provide remote-sensing and telecommunication services as part of the A-SEANSAT and A-SEANLINK constellations.
“It will also explore the development of satellite applications and services through the Sarawak Digital and Innovation Ecosystem,” read the release.
Meanwhile, Centexs’ collaboration focuses on human capital development, training, and accreditation in space technology, rockets, satellites, and related areas. This includes sharing or exchanging information such as technical knowledge, professional experience, industry standards, and best practices.
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into space and satellite technology will be a focal area for Angkasa-X. Its joint venture with Centexs will centre on SpaceTech talent specialising in satellite engineering and space, as well as research and development to advance the Sarawak/Borneo space economy.
Commenting on the significance of the MoU, Sudarnoto stated that the partnership represents a transformative leap, enhancing connectivity and contributing to a more interconnected Sarawak.
“The development of Sarawak-owned satellites will further enable reliable communication in remote and underserved areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking.
“They will facilitate advancements in broadband services, ensuring seamless global communication and fostering innovation across various sectors,” he said. — DayakDaily
