SERIAN (Aug 3): The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has approved an allocation of RM560,000 to aid eight families affected by a fire in Kampung Krusen Siu in Tebedu here.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the funds are to rebuild the longhouse in the village razed by a fire on July 13.

“The approved funds will be managed by the Serian Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) with assistance from the Public Works Department before the rebuilding work is to be tendered,” he said during a visit to the village.

All eight families also received aid amounting to RM9,217 from the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) based on collections done by its members.

The Bidayuh Graduates Association (BGA) also contributed in the form of school stationery to 10 affected students.

Aside from the eight families, the victims of a double-storey house fire in Kampung Plaman Bantang also received an allocation of RM70,000.

Dr Simon said the construction project would take about six months or more, depending on the Serian DDMC’s section of the Serian Resident’s Office in implementing their responsibilities.

Also present were DBNA president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and vice chairman Dr Charlie Ungang, BGA president Prof Andrew Ragai, DBNA exco Ambrose Dango, DBNA Serian vice-chairman Dr Clarence Jerry and Kampung Krusen Siu village chief Bosco Nyabung.
