SEA Games 2027: Terengganu will be the venue for endurance events

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 September: Terengganu is expected to be the newest venue for endurance event equestrian events at SEA Malaysia Games 2027.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Organizing Committee for SEA Sports and Malaysia's ASEAN Para Games (MASOC) Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said that this was after the Terengganu State Government had formally expressed interest in hosting endurance events, besides having extensive experience organizing international competitions in the discipline.

However, he said that the matter is still at the proposal stage and some aspects should be taken into consideration including the level of preparedness of the venue.

"So far, no decision has been made, but we expect the endurance discipline for equestrian sports to be made in Terengganu", he said.

He said so at the announcement of cooperation between MASOC and Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2026 today, which was also attended by MSN's Director of Event and Sports Management Division Safrushahar Mohd Yusoff and LTdL26 Secretariat Chief Operating Officer Emir Abdul Jalal.

Rashid said Terengganu was not part of the main cluster, but the venue is seen as having an advantage due to its international status.

"The best endurance track is in Terengganu because at least three times a year international endurance events are held in the state.

"So, their preparedness level in terms of organizing the event is very high", he said.

Previously, four main clusters of SEA Malaysia Sports 2027 have been identified, namely in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Sarawak and Penang, while Langkawi has also been identified as the most suitable location for sailing events. -TVS
