Search underway for fisherman feared missing in Simunjan

KUCHING (July 14): A fisherman is feared missing at Muara Sebuyau in Simunjan after failing to return from fishing since July 12.

A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim was identified as Ong Kim Huat @ Isa Yusuf, aged 65, and that the department received a call at 8.05am today.

“According to the complainant, her father went out fishing on July 12 at 2.30pm using his own boat located at the riverside of Kampung Demak Baru, Phase 1, Jalan Bako here.

“Based on WhatsApp messages and SMSes sent at 5.02pm on the same day, the victim’s last known location was at Muara Sebuyau in Simunjan,” he said in a statement.

A search and rescue operation has been initiated and as of press time, no leads have surfaced.
