SIBU: The recent power disruptions in Bukit Assek on December 23 and 27 stemmed from multiple underground cable faults, as identified by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

The utility company in a statement said upon reports of the outages, its technical teams, deployed through Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO), swiftly addressed the issue.

Although supply was swiftly restored within two hours on December 23 by rerouting through alternate feeders, adverse weather conditions on December 27 extended the restoration duration to almost five hours.

SEB Central Region manager Effendy Syaiful Abdullah shared that mitigation plans for Bukit Assek are already in place and actively being executed to enhance supply reliability for customers within the area.

“We sincerely apologise to the affected customers for any inconvenience caused, especially during this holiday season. Safety is our priority, and our team has been working very hard to minimise interruptions and restore supply promptly upon receiving outage reports. However, some delays were inevitable given the rainy season.

“Rest assured that we have made significant investments in our Smart Grid initiative to enhance supply reliability in the area. We seek your patience and understanding that while we are expediting the completion, this is a large-scale project and it requires time to ensure its supply readiness,” said Effendy.

Meanwhile, SEB also urged the public’s cooperation in promptly reporting power outages and assured round-the-clock readiness of its technical teams.

Residents were encouraged to contact the 24/7 Customer Care Centre at 1300-883111 or use alternative communication channels like email, mobile apps, or virtual agents for reporting electricity supply issues or any suspicious activities around SEB’s facilities.
