MIRI (July 13): Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) has presented contributions of cash and school supplies to 120 children from six primary and secondary schools here.
The Ziarah Kasih Gawai programme yesterday, held in conjunction with the recent Gawai Dayak Festival, was part of the corporation’s annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
SEDC Miri Regional Office’s authority officer Nordin Mus, in his speech at the handing-over ceremony, highlighted the group’s commitment to community enrichment, of which it also collaborated with other agencies and its subsidiaries in planning and executing activities aimed at providing assistance to those in need.
According to him, SEDC’s charity programmes have been improvised to offer a fresh perspective, with improvements in concept and approach, unlike in the previous years where it only benefitted students from selected schools in the Kuching Division.
“This programme has been extended to several other divisions since 2020; last year, we had it held in Betong and Lawas. God-willing, it will continue to other divisions,” he said.
The event at a hotel here started off with interactive sessions, including introduction to hydrogen as a new energy source and workshops on entrepreneurship, followed by the distribution of assistance to the school-children.
Also present were SEDC director (corporate relations and communications) Nur Khairanie Nasya Jasni and the Miri District Education assistant officer Then Fen Nee.
