SELANGAU (July 30): The three-day Selangau Carnival 2024, which began July 26, concluded with great joy and vibrancy on Sunday night.
The annual event successfully brought together people from various backgrounds and showcased the rich culture and heritage of Sarawak to thousands of locals and visitors.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, in his speech for the closing ceremony, expressed pride and happiness over the success of the carnival.
He thanked all parties involved in making the carnival a success, including the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), sponsors, organisers and volunteers who worked hard to ensure it ran smoothly.
“Selangau Carnival 2024 not only provided entertainment but also served as an important platform to foster unity among people of different races and religions,” he said in his text of speech read out by Selangau MP Edwin Banta at the closing ceremony.
Throughout the carnival, various activities and cultural performances were held, including traditional dances, art exhibitions, folk games and concerts.
“These events not only entertained but also gave visitors the opportunity to recognise and appreciate the diversity of cultures in Sarawak.
“In addition, this carnival also highlighted the great potential of the tourism and performing arts industry in this area, particularly in Sarawak,” Uggah noted.
He also emphasised the Sarawak government’s hope to see more collaboration and synergy among the community in various fields, especially in tourism, culture and the arts.
“The success of the Selangau Carnival 2024 proves that political stability in the state enables the Sarawak government to implement various policies and development programmes that directly benefit the people.
“Therefore, I hope this carnival inspires and motivates all people to continue preserving and advancing the state’s culture.
“I also hope we will meet again in future events and continue to support initiatives to advance Sarawak,” he said.
He further mentioned that the Selangau Carnival is expected to continue to be an eagerly anticipated annual event that elevates Sarawak’s cultural heritage and unite the community in a spirit of unity and harmony.
Also present was SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai.
