KUCHING, July 26: Sarawak is no longer reliant on timber and oil and gas (O&G) as sources of revenue under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS), Senate president Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah said that through various new approaches, including pioneering in green economy, Sarawak succeeded in diversifying its economic base.

He said that the Premier is smart in managing income (by venturing into new trends), including the green economy and the renewable energy sector.

“He has transformed Sarawak from a landscape that was based on natural resources to green economy and diversified its resources,” he told TVS reporters during an interview at Dewan Negara recently.

He pointed out that the areas pioneered by Sarawak currently have increased its financial capabilities.

He said previously, (Sarawak) only depended on timber, oil and gas, and agriculture, but now into new areas with the availability of hydrogen, renewable energy, and carbon storage and capture, which is in line with Sarawak’s effort to address climate change.

Not only that, he added, the initiatives implemented by Abang Johari will also determine the welfare and prosperity of Sarawak in the future, especially when there are new job opportunities. — DayakDaily
