KUCHING, June 28: Seven houses were destroyed in a fire in the Tabuan Hilir area here this morning, affecting 44 residents from six families, with no casualties reported.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 3.41am on June 28, before arriving at the scene three minutes later at 3.45am, located about 3km from the station.

The fire involved seven non-permanent structure houses, with six of them destroyed up to 100 per cent, while another sustained about 30 per cent damage. Three motorcycles were also completely destroyed.

The blaze was brought under control at 4.44am, with the operation concluding at 7.08am.

According to Bomba, firefighting operations involved both offensive and defensive tactics, with firefighters deploying multiple hose lines and nozzles, supported by water from fire engines and a water tanker.

Firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station led the operation, assisted by personnel from Padungan and Batu Lintang stations. A total of 28 personnel and five vehicles, including three fire engines, one water tanker and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, were deployed.

All residents managed to escape safely, with no fatalities or injuries reported.

Preliminary information showed the affected houses were occupied by six families, comprising a total of 44 people, including children.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
