BINTULU (Oct 29): A severe storm this morning brought down a tree at the Wisma Persekutuan Bintulu car park, damaging three vehicles.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that a team of firefighters from the Bintulu fire station received a call on the incident at 10.38am.
“Upon arrival, the firefighters found three cars that had been struck by the fallen tree,” said a Bomba spokesman.
He said no injuries were reported as the cars were empty at the time of the incident.
Firefighters cut the branches and trunk of the tree to remove it from the affected vehicles.
The Meteorological Department issued a warning at 7.55am of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds for several areas in Sarawak including Sibu, Mukah (Daro, Matu, Dalat, and Mukah), Kapit (Song, Kapit, and Bukit Mabong), Bintulu (Tatau), and Miri (Subis and Miri).
The warning said rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour was expected to last for more than an hour.
There were also reports on social media of malfunctioning traffic lights at several areas including fallen trees on Jalan Tanjung Kidurong.
