SIBU (July 23): Several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based in Sibu rejected claims they support paranormal activities allegedly taking place at Bukit Aup Jubilee Park.

These NGOs include Terabai Pesaka Dayak Sibu, Serakup Iban Batang Igan, and the Dayak Sarawak Teresang Association.

In a joint statement following a meeting and miring ceremony at Bukit Aup Jubilee Park, these NGOs clarified that they have never given permission or supported any paranormal activities by any party, including those identifying themselves as ‘Black Sabahan’.

“We want to make it clear that we do not support and are not involved in any paranormal activities at Bukit Aup,” said Terabai Pesaka Dayak Sibu chairman Well Ajah.

Well emphasised that inaccurate reports published in the media have also caused dissatisfaction within the community and tarnished the good name of their NGOs.

According to him, inaccurate information in these reports has triggered various negative comments on social media, leading to misunderstandings and tension within the Dayak community in Sibu.

“Therefore, this meeting was held to clear up the confusion and correct the misinformation,” he added.

Well urged all parties not to believe inaccurate reports and hoped that the media would be more careful in conveying information to avoid misunderstandings in the future.

He said the statement hoped to restore public confidence in Dayak NGOs in Sibu and correct all misunderstandings that have occurred.

Additionally, they emphasised their commitment to maintaining the good name and integrity of the NGOs and ensured all activities conducted comply with local norms and customs.
