SIBU: The Transport Ministry should get all airlines operating between Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak with an increased frequency to bring airfares down.
In a statement on Thursday, Sibu MP Oscar Ling said that the reduced frequency of some airlines has caused airfares to skyrocket to as high as RM999-one way during an off-peak period.
"Airlines will tell you to book tickets in advance, but when there are not enough flights, there will be problems with no tickets and expensive tickets. This is because the demand exceeds supply," he said.
Ling said that the issue of air fares between East and West Malaysia is a priority that the unity government must deal with to ensure that East Malaysians are not marginalised.
