Sibu police arrest man for alleged drug trafficking

SIBU (Oct 13): The police here have arrested a 41-year-old man for suspected drug trafficking activities involving 1.5 kilogrammes of various drugs.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the estimated value of the drugs is RM86,051.

He said the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division arrested the suspect in his car on Oct 10 at 1.35pm at the roadside of Jalan Pedada.

They found 34 plastic packets of various sizes containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine and 15 blister packs containing pills believed to be Erimin 5.

“Further investigation on a house at Jalan Tuah found 439 plastic packets of various sizes believed to contain methamphetamine,13 plastic packets containing a crystalline substance believed to be ketamine and 60 blister packs containing Erimin 5,” he told a press conference today.

The police also seized a car worth RM15,000 and RM6,600 in cash believed to be from drug sales.

He said the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine, amphatamine, ketamine and benzo, and is being remanded under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for six days until Oct 17 to assist in the investigations.

The case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Act for drug trafficking, which carries a death penalty upon conviction.

The suspect will also be investigated under Section 15(1) of the same Act for drug abuse.

Zulkipli said the suspect had no previous criminal records.

Meanwhile, under Special Ops Tapis, the police also made 32 other arrests for drug possession and drug abuse, and the cases will be investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 12(2) for drug possession and Section 15(1)(a) for drug abuse.
