SIBU (Aug 9): The Sibu Division Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association (SDBWA) is encouraged by the support that it has been receiving for its intention of hosting the 54th edition of Mr Malaysia Bodybuilding Championships next year.
According to SDBWA president Chia Soon Cheong, this matter has been made known to the state parent body Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) and also the national sanctioning body Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation (MBBF).
“Both SBBA and MBBF, through their respective presidents Dato Wee Hong Seng and Major-General (R) Datuk Dr Ahmad Badrus Othman, have given us the blessing to proceed with the plan.
“Even more encouraging is the assurance given by our (Pelawan) assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang, who has agreed to support the hosting of Mr Malaysia 2025 in Sibu,” he said when met after conducting a courtesy call on the assemblyman, here recently.
Earlier, Tiang, the state Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, presented incentives to Sibu bodybuilders Alfie Khan Abdul Aziz Khan and Farrokh Ibtisam Ting Abdullah in recognition of their commendable performance at the just-concluded 53rd Mr Malaysia Bodybuilding Championships in Johor Bahru.
Alfie Khan and Farrokh contributed silver medals to the Sarawak contingent at the national-level event, from their respective categories: Men’s Athletic Physique (Up To 175cm) and Men’s Bodybuilding Light Heavyweight (Up To 90kg).
Another silver medal was collected by Daubline Timbol from Kuching, who competed in the Men’s Bodybuilding Flyweight (Up To 60kg) class.
The state contingent also bagged the bronze medals through Awangku Hosin Awangku Bagul (Welterweight—Up To 75kg) and Gerdashlie Bodos (Light Middleweight—Up To 80kg).
