SIBU, June 17: A female student of a local private higher institution was cheated of RM13,750 in a non-existent online part-time job offer.
Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the student who is in her 20s lodged a report on June 16 claiming she had been deceived by a non-existent job offer.
“The victim claimed that on June 15, she was added to a WhatsApp group called Millennium Portfolios Event A13 by a suspect named Ho Siew Ming. He offered her the opportunity to earn side money by doing work assignments on YouTube,” he said today.
Zulkipli said the victim had given her Touch&Go, bank account and personal information for documentation and verification purposes.
“Soon after the suspect ordered the victim to log into a line (https://iit.me/Joyce_WB) for the purpose of doing the assigned and required tasks. She was also told to click on the so-called Nike & Adidas subscribe button that promised a profit of as much as RM100.
“The suspect also informed the victim that if she wanted to make a profit of RM40,000 she had to do the next task by putting in money amounting to RM20,000,” he added.
Attracted by the offer, the victim made five transfers totaling RM13,750 into four different local bank account numbers
However, until the report was made, she did not receive the promised profit and commission and realised that she had been conned.
The case is being investigated under section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, said Zulkipli. — DayakDaily
