KUCHING (Aug 13): Around 10,000 people and 1,500 motorcycles are expected at the Siburan Bike Week this Nov 1-3, said Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
The Mambong assemblyman said this event will be the first motorcycle-concept event in Siburan and one to draw the largest number of visitors to this town.
With Siburan now elevated to full district status, the Deputy Transport Minister welcomed more events to be held in Siburan to boost the local economy and open up more business opportunities to the locals.
“This is a very good initiative for Siburan and it will improve the development of Siburan as a satellite town due to its very strategic location near Kuching, Samarahan and Serian.
“So whatever event is held in Siburan, it is located near Kuching. In fact, it is part of Greater Kuching,” he told a press conference today.
The event will be held at the Siburan New Township ARC 18 parking lot area.
Dr Jerip also suggested the event be held annually and be included in the yearly tourism calendar of events.
Meanwhile, Siburan Bike Week 2024 spokesperson Nurfitrah Mohamed said this event aims to bring together owners of motorcycles, whether high-powered or small, from Brunei, Indonesia, Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak.
She added many interested activities will be featured such as ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition, ‘Ladies Bikers Style’ pageant, karaoke competition and a concert.
There will also be food and drinks, booths selling biker merchandise as well as lucky draws.
“We received an incredible registration response so far and I hope registration will continue to increase,” she added.
