MIRI (Sept 3): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a 38-year-old man RM2,300 in default two months in prison for abusing drugs in April.
Magistrate Randu Rangen convicted Alexster Nyalayang Rindu of Sungai Tapang, Bakas, Sibuti on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
The Section carries a jail sentence of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years.
The court also ordered for him to undergo supervision for two years.
According to the facts of the case, Alexster was found to be abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine, which are listed in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He tested positive for the drugs when he underwent a urine test at the Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at 8.24pm on April 18 this year.
ASP Koay Kok Ping prosecuted the case, while Alexster was unrepresented by legal counsel.
