TATAU (Aug 13): Minor Rural Project (MRP) cheques should never be cashed and distributed to the longhouse residents, said Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai.

The Minister in the Premier’s Department said these funds should be utilised for organising activities and implementing small projects within the longhouses, including purchasing roofing materials, tiles and other necessities for the benefit of all residents.

“The MRP funds must be managed transparently, with meetings held among longhouse residents or association members to discuss their use.

“All expenditures should be recorded in the minutes of meeting to ensure accountability,” he said prior to presenting MRP cheques to recipients at Tatau District Office yesterday.

A total of 62 MRP cheques amounting to RM1.468 million were handed over to village security and development committees, women’s bureau, and various associations.

Among those present to witness were Bintulu Resident Nyurak Keti, Tatau District administrative officer Winnie Dian, and Pemanca Gerosen Jubin.

On a separate matter, the Kakus assemblyman said a proposal has been submitted to establish a sub-district office in Nanga Tau.

“Consequently, infrastructure improvements such as the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply project in Nanga Tau, Tatau will be undertaken.

“This water supply project will benefit several nearby longhouses, a health clinic, and SK Nanga Tau,” he said.
