KUCHING: Well-known singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza was on her way to collect AIM25’s Best Song award when she turned back and invited lyricist Datuk Habsah Hassan to join her on stage.
The award went to Pesanan Buat Diri, composed by Aubrey Suwito with lyrics by Habsah, at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here last night (Sept 26).

“I cannot think only of myself because there are others whose work I need to appreciate, and this is the best stage for them,” she told reporters after the ceremony.
She said Aubrey’s melody and Habsah’s lyrics gave the song its strength and moved her as she sang it.

Habsah said she wrote it with everyone in mind, including herself and Siti, after Aubrey sent her the melody.
“There will be times of happiness and times of sorrow, but we cannot remain sad for too long,” she said.
Meanwhile, Siti’s Best Female Vocal win for Kesuma showed what a new generation could bring to traditional music, she said.
The song, which draws on Javanese musical influences, demanded careful breath control and a balance of softness and strength in her delivery.
Siti credited young singer and songwriter Aisha Retno with helping shape her vocals for the track.
She said younger creators deserved room to develop traditional music in their own way, rather than having their work constantly compared with that of earlier composers.

“As long as I make albums, I will make sure they are entered for AIM,” she said.
