Malaysia’s aspiration to add to its gold medal collection at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games shone brightly once again as two of the country’s squash champions advanced to the final of their respective singles events today.
World No 5 S Sivasangari booked her ticket to the final after defeating Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 in the semi-finals at the Nagoya Kinjofuto Arena.
The victory sees the 27-year-old coming closer to defending the gold medal she won at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
Sivasangari will face India’s Anahat Singh, the world No 17, in the final tomorrow.
Head-to-head records favour Sivasangari after the Kedah-born player recorded wins against Anahat at the 2026 London Squash Classic and the 2025 British Open.
However, Sivasangari cannot take the challenge of the 18-year-old player lightly given that the Asian Games championship also offers an automatic slot to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
In the men’s singles event, Ng Eain Yow also ensured Malaysia has a representative on the final stage after the world No 18 player eliminated Pakistan’s Noor Zaman 11-7, 11-2, 11-4.
Eain Yow will face India’s Abhay Singh, who is world No 24, in the gold medal playoff.
