KUCHING, Jan 6: The alumni of SK St Matthew Sekuau (M) Selangau plan to provide scholarships and financial aid to students with outstanding results.
In a statement today, alumni member Anderson Dato Paran said they are considering awarding scholarships and financial assistance as an encouragement to outstanding students.
“The planned initiative will take into account the support and help from the public, including private companies that want to fulfil their corporate social responsibilities (CSR).
“It cannot be denied that excellent students in rural areas need financial assistance and solid support from the community, including the private sector so that they can achieve a higher level of education,” he said.
As a start, Anderson, who is the executive chairman of the BMAS Holdings Sdn Bhd group, which consists of Borneo MA Smart Vendors Sdn Bhd (BMAS), BMAS Construction Sdn Bhd, and BMAS Entertainment Enterprise, said his group of companies will contribute RM50,000 to the alumni dinner which will take place on Jan 20.
He also said that the alumni are actively implementing several programmes to collect funds from the public to help the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), including the students who need assistance.
“We will also organise a charity dinner as the start of efforts to raise funds for the school, and the public has been invited to support this initiative.
“With strong support from the public and our customers, our company will continue initiatives and social programs that will benefit everyone, especially students who need solid educational opportunities for a brighter future,” he added. — DayakDaily
