SKS Betong misses visitor target, commitment remains strong

BETONG: Nearly 96,000 people visited ‘Sarawakku Sayang 2026’ in Betong over its three-day programme, below the organising committee’s initial target of 120,000.

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, said the turnout did not reach the target, but the government remained committed to work with the people.

“Although we did not reach our target, it’s okay. Maybe it was because of the weather.

“But we remain committed to working together with the people and the civil service,” he said during the closing ceremony of ‘Sarawakku Sayang 2026’ in Betong at the Betong Sports Complex today.

Rentap also reminded civil servants to consider the difficulties faced by members of the public when accessing government services.

“You also have to put yourself in the shoes of the ‘rakyat’ (people). If the people find it difficult to climb the stairs to see you, you go down to them,” he said.

He also added that the members of the public also had the right to raise concerns when government services did not meet their expectations.

“Public service is two-way traffic. It cannot be one-way,” he added.
