SIBU: Sibu Bike Week has gained recognition for its ability to attract not just locals but also international bikers to the town.
Nearly 10,000 individuals flock to the town annually, comprising bikers and enthusiasts eager to witness and learn more about big bikes.
The sudden influx of visitors during the festival has significantly boosted tourism in the town, but it has also incurred a cost.
Despite the huge positive outcome from the event, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh has expressed his disappointment on his Facebook account early this morning (Dec 3).
“I welcome motorcyclists from around the world to Sibu. They are all over the city, bringing tremendous energy to Sibu. I wish you all a safe journey home.
“However, when I was at the town square early this morning, this is what I saw (Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2 filled with trash),” he said.
He expressed hope for better management from the organisers to prevent the area from being littered.
“I am confident that motorcycle enthusiasts can take better care of the environment than this,” he added.
Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II in Sibu recently hosted the Sibu Bike Week 2023, which took place from December 1 to 3.
