KUCHING: SMD Semiconductor has signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading global technology companies at the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2024.
The MoU signing ceremony, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today (Oct 16), was witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The agreements were formalised between SMD and five prominent international partners namely Silicon Catalyst, Siemens, Cambridge Microelectronics Ltd, Hives AI, and Weeteq.
SMD said these strategic MoUs underscore SMD’s unwavering commitment to driving digital transformation and fostering innovation within Sarawak and the broader region.
“The partnerships established through these MoUs are set to deliver groundbreaking advancements in the fields of AI, semiconductor technology, and digital innovation.”
Meanwhile, SMD chief executive officer Shariman Jamil said the MoUs signed mark the start of a collaboration between respective parties on the development of a new AI controller and compound semiconductor chips.
“The scope of cooperation includes an outline of a strategic partnership model, research and development, knowledge sharing, talent development, and potential product commercialisation and market access.”
In addition to these MoUs, SMD had previously signed a significant MoU on April 23 with CSA Catapult, a global leader in compound semiconductor applications and commercialisation, represented by Martin McHugh, CEO of CSA Catapult, in London.
