MIRI: A total of 31 top scorers from SMK Baru Miri have been rewarded for their exceptional performance in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2023 examinations.
These high-achieving students were given incentives totalling RM7,100, which were handed over by Senadin assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, in a ceremony held at the school on Monday.
The group of top scorers comprised 16 SPM and 15 STPM school leavers, all of whom had excelled in their respective examinations.
Lee encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence in their academic pursuits.
He emphasised the significance of such incentives in motivating students, highlighting that this was the third year such rewards were given at SMK Baru Miri.
“The incentive programme has shown positive results, with students consistently achieving remarkable results. I hope this serves as further encouragement for those who will be sitting for their SPM and STPM examinations in the future,” said Lee.
He also stressed the importance of equipping students with the right skills to help Sarawak achieve its long-term development goals.
“Our Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has been steering Sarawak towards a new economic frontier – the digital and green economies. To realise this vision, Sarawak requires a highly skilled workforce, especially in the fields of Science, Technology, and Engineering.”
Lee urged parents to encourage their children to focus on subjects related to these fields, which are crucial to preparing the next generation for the demands of the future economy.
