KUCHING (Oct 11): Some 80 students and nine teachers of SMK Bau, SMK Lake, SMK Singai, and SMK Paku attended a sports psychology talk on enhancing sports performance at SMK Bau on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the talk was organised by the Bau District Education Office in collaboration with the Sarawak Sports Psychology Association (Saspa) and the Department of Physical Education and Co-curriculum, Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia Batu Lintang Campus (IPGMKBL).

It added that the event featured a presentation by Universiti Sains Malaysia associate professor Dr Garry Kuan entitled ‘Winning from Within: The Role of Sport Psychology in Performance Enhancement’.

Moreover, the attendees participated in a Mindflex activity, a toy game that uses brain waves to control a foam ball through a series of customisable obstacle courses.

Meanwhile, Dr Chin Ngien Siong of IPGMKBL expressed his gratitude towards Johnny Tukok and Mathew Apok of the Bau District Education Office, as well as the principals of the participating schools for their collaboration with Saspa.

“This event is meant to bring together the schools’ athletes and physical education teachers for the purpose of learning how to optimise the athletes’ sports performance through sports psychology,” said Chin in the statement.

Kuan, who is also secretary of the Asian South-Pacific Association of Sports Psychology, is among Asia’s renowned sports scientists and sports psychologists.
